Elizabeth City Habitat for Humanity is currently evaluating applications to select a partner family for a new house to be built in 2018. We build decent, affordable energy-efficient housing for low-income residents of Pasquotank County. Each partner family must agree with complete sweat equity on the house, have a need for the house (such as poor living or overcrowded conditions in their current home) and be able to pay the zero-interest mortgage for the house.
The average cost of a house is $60-70,000. To keep our costs down, we look for donors to help defray the costs of materials and volunteers to do as much of the work as possible. Donations as small as $1 can help us purchase electrical supplies while larger donations can purchase doors, kitchen cabinets and windows.
We need a general contractor to supervise the construction of this next house as well as certified electricians, plumbers, drywall, flooring and HVAC contractors and experienced carpenters. If you or your company would be interested in helping with any of these tasks, please contact Jane Elfring, 252-384-0115.
