39th Annual Frank Stick Memorial Art Show

The 39th Annual Frank Stick Memorial Art Show will open at the Dare County Arts Council Gallery in downtown Manteo on Saturday, January 28.

The opening reception will be held January 28 from 6-8pm at the DCAC Gallery and will feature heavy hors d'oeuvres and awards.

Ceramic Artist Ben Jordan, who is currently a long-term resident artist at Pocosin Arts in Columbia, North Carolina will judge the show.

“It is with great honor that I have the opportunity to be part of the jurying process of the wonderful, longstanding 39th Annual Frank Stick Memorial Art Show,” said Ceramic Artist Ben Jordan. “Being born and raised in Arizona, I am new to northeast North Carolina and I am grateful to Pocosin Arts for exposing me to this unique and fascinating landscape and community. I look forward to seeing a multitude of unique works of art coming from an equally unique and beautiful part of our country.”

Jordan earned a Bachelors of Fine Art in ceramics at Northern Arizona University. After finishing a residency at the Red Lodge Clay Center, he obtained his Masters in Fine Art in ceramics from Virginia Commonwealth University.
Artists wishing to participate in this year’s show can find a prospectus online at DareArts.org and at the DCAC Gallery. Entries can be dropped off January 24 or 25 between 10am and 5pmat the DCAC Gallery, located at 300 Queen Elizabeth Avenue, Manteo, NC 27954.

The annual show is held in memory of Outer Banks preservationist and artist Frank Stick, and is the longest running visual arts exhibit in Dare County. The Frank Stick Memorial Art Show will be held at the DCAC Gallery for the first time since its inception 39 years ago.

“I remember when Pat and I offered to donate our Gallery for the Frank Stick Invitational Art Exhibition,” said Co-Owner of Ghost Fleet Gallery Glenn Eure. “It turned into a 30 plus year adventure as the show grew and developed into THE winter arts event on the Outer Banks. Frank Stick moving to Manteo is certainly the end of an era for the Ghost Fleet Gallery, but we have to embrace change or we will get old. The Dare County Arts Council is doing great things and with its own beautiful gallery space, the Frank Stick Show’s logical new home will be more than we can envision. Pat and I are planning to attend the reception and are honored to have the Best in Show award named after us. That is the best incentive I can think of to stay around and see who the recipients are over the years.”

The show will remain on display at the DCAC Gallery through Saturday, February 25.
